The historic Los Ojos Village, known for its distinct blend of Victorian and traditional adobe architecture and its community effort to revitalize the local economy through the development of agricultural based, culturally valued enterprises, has much to offer visitors. Stroll down the main street, browse in Tierra Wools’ showroom and watch our weavers spin, dye yarn and create works of art.

Take the opportunity to step into the tranquility of the San Jose Church, which is over 100 years old, or visit the Saint Bernadette Grotto on the scenic winding road down into Los Ojos.

In downtown Los Ojos, watch local craftsmen fashion sturdy door mats at Otra Vuelta tire recycling, or wander into the Yellow Earth Gallery to view prints, photographs and paintings by artist Paul Trachtman. Just a couple of miles down the road, you can get a feel for the agricultural spirit of the valley by visiting the Rancho Manzanares farm, or the neighboring Los Ojos Fish Hatchery.

Other activities available in the Chama River Valley include the Cumbres-Toltec Scenic Railroad, and Heron Lake and El Vado Lake State Parks. The nearby Carson and Rio Grande National Forests offer scenic, rugged fishing, hunting, and hiking during warm months, and skiing and snowmobiling during the winter. Just a 1/2 an hour to the South, explore the spectacular Abiquíu area, home of artist Georgia O’Keeffe and the Ghost Ranch. The art colony of Taos is just 1.5 scenic hours to the East, a pleasant day trip from Los Ojos.

The Tierra Wools Guest House has kitchen facilities, but if you would like to dine out, you can make the short journey north to Chama, where you will find a variety of restaurants, including the historic Foster’s Saloon (est. 1881), and the High Country Restaurant and Saloon, which features a fresh live-music lineup year round.

No matter the season, there is usually something going on in Los Ojos or one of the surrounding communities of the Chama River Valley. During the long summer days, you may happen upon one of the many small religious Fiestas celebrated in Los Ojos and the neighboring communities. If you’re in the mood for some excitement, you can catch the Chama Days festival and rodeo in Chama, NM; the Red Ryder Roundup in nearby Pagosa Springs, CO, or the Little Beaver powwow and rodeo at the nearby Jicarilla Apache Reservation. Wintertime comes with its own holiday festivities, and come January, the Chama Chile Ski Classic is not to be missed. And, of course, every spring Tierra Wools has its Spring Festival – a great opportunity for all the community to come view the weavers’ winter work.
