Elaine Bakkenson

The inspiration for my designs come from the generations of Spanish rug weavers in New Mexico. I bought a four harness loom in 1987 and 100 pounds of white wool in 1992. I do all of my own dying.

From 1992 to 200 I was part of a studio in the old Globe County Courthouse in Globe, Arizona housed the city’s Art Center. The whole spectrum of weaving were produced and sold. we were commissioned to do pillow covers for the Frank Lloyd Wright Tallissin West Studio.

Since moving to Farmington, New Mexico, I have been working out of my home. I belong to the Warped Women, Intermountain Weavers and the Four Corners Weavers Guild.

Two of my rugs were accepted for the 13th Annual Spring Harvest Festival at Tierra Wools in 2006. One rug has been accepted into the Intermountain Weaver’s Conference Art Show for 2007. My work can also be seen at Artifacts in Farmington, NM and Weaving Southwest in Taos, NM.
