2012 Class Schedule

The heritage of our Northern New Mexico weaving traditions carries back four centuries.  We weave tapestries with hand-dyed yarns spun from the wool of churro sheep.  We offer two-day, three-day and week-long classes for four to eight students that allow you to share the skills of our master weavers and create yarns or a one-of-a-kind piece you will treasure.  In our spinning classes you can prepare and hand spin wool into lustrous yarn.  In the dyeing classes you will transform yarn into any shade, using both local and exotic natural dyes, including bacterial indigo.  Our weaving classes allow you to work side by side with our weavers and include history, design, material selection, warping and the same weaving and finishing techniques we offer in our own pieces.  The 2011 Class Schedule is shown below:

Free Weekly Classes:
Knitting - Fridays from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm (Beginners) and from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Have you always wanted to learn to knit?  Now is your chance.  If you already know how to knit, bring your instructions for the project you would like to make.  Purchase yarn and needles from Tierra Wools or bring your own.  Beginners will make a scarf.  Experts, come join in the fellowship.  Space is limited so please call 575-588-7231 to register.

Inkle Loom Weaving - Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm
Inkle looms are small and portable.  You will first learn to warp the loom and make bookmarks.  Then move on to other projects such as belts, coasters, guitar straps and other small items.  Space is limited so please call 575-588-7231 to register.  Bring your lunch if you wish.

Five-Day Weaving Classes
Classes begin Monday morning at 9:30 am and end Friday at 4:00 pm.

Classes begin first day at 9:30 am and end last day at 4:00 pm.

If the Spinning and Dyeing Classes are in the same week, they can be combined for the five-day class price.  Classes can be set up by special arrangement for three to four people with at least one month's notice. 
 
*Accommodations are available at our Casita.  Students will receive a 15% discount off published Casita rates.  Casita rates are available by calling 575-588-7231 and are published on this website under the Guest House menu tab.
 
One-On-One Instruction
$25 per hour or $130 per day for all types of instruction.
 
Loom Rental Fees/Warp Fees
To cover the cost of the warp and the time used by Tierra Wools to wind the warp, tie on and beam the warp, Tierra Wools will charge
 
          4 x 6 weaving (either blanket or rug) 
          Loom and Warp Fee: $45.00
          Time Allowed: 6 consecutive days
          Over 6 days: $10.00/per day in addition to the warp fee
 
          3 X 5 weaving (either blanket or rug)
          Loom and Warp Fee: $35.00 
          Time Allowed: 4 consecutive days
          Over 4 days: $7.00/per day in addition to the warp fee
 
          Small rug or blanket (approx. 18” to 24” width)

          Time Allowed: 3 consecutive days
          Over 3 days: $5.00/per day in addition to the warp fee
 
Arrangements can be made in advance for extended weaving times (the above fees will still apply). Only certain looms are available for weavings that require an extended period of time. These are looms where we have several of the same size, warped for the same type of weaving—rug or blanket.  We provide the warped loom, and you may either bring weft yarn for your project or purchase our yarn. 
 
Spinning Wheel Rental:  $2.00 per day.

The casita suites have kitchens and utensils, and there are several restaurants in the valley.
