School of Rio Grande Weaving Traditions
The School of Rio Grande Weaving Traditions has been set up as a non-profit entity affiliated with Tierra Wools. Tierra Wools makes looms and teaching space available to the School. As before, master weavers work under the School Director to provide an intimate, interactive experience for students. Overall this will meet the missions of both Tierra Wools and the Weaving School more effectively. Tierra Wools provides both economic and human development by providing training and experience, especially for women, in both business management and the art of weaving. Tierra Wools’ member-owners feel that this change will open up greater opportunities which benefit others and feel that this decision helps accomplish these goals.
We educate both weavers and the general public about the weaving heritage in Northern New Mexico and serve our community with projects that strengthen weaving’s role in revitalizing our culture and economy. Through tours, classes, public speaking, media interviews, videos and talking with customers, Tierra Wools has taken on the responsibility for educating the public about the Spanish weaving tradition.
